NEW RAMP … A possible site for a new boat ramp would be here, at Rupp’s Landing. (PHOTO BY DANIEL COOLEY, STAFF)

In September of 2019, a canoe/boat launch on the Tiffin River was completed. The launch is in the Knights Landing area of Stryker on County Road F.70, just east of state route 191.
The village of Stryker was able to build the ramp because of a grant received from Nature Works.
Now, roughly 2 1/2 years later, there are preliminary talks about possibly putting in another boat launch. The matter was discussed at the Stryker Village Council’s February meeting.
“It would probably be done at Rupp’s Landing, but that is in Springfield Township and not in Stryker,” said Stryker village administrator Beth Rediger.
“We talked about what steps we need to get the river cleaned up a bit and then, how do we get funding for it.”
One of the very preliminary steps would be to see if Springfield Township would like to build a boat ramp there. Then it must be determined how and where would the funding come from.
Another possibility for a boat ramp would be if it could be constructed on the other side of the road from Springfield Township.
Most of that side of the street is in Stryker Village Limits. A house presumably owned by Ken Guilliard is currently being torn down there.
However, permission to put in the boat ramp would have to be granted by Guilliard.
One of the reasons for discussing another boat launch is because the one on County Rd. F.70 is the only one. Once someone gets in at Knights Landing, there is no other one.
Thus, the only current exit site is at Knights Landing. Most likely, another boat ramp will be discussed at Stryker Village Council’s March meeting.
