A Records Commission meeting was held on April 19 at 5:30 and minutes will be prepared and distributed on May 17 at the regular meeting.
Chief Schlosser went over the monthly police report and notified council that the new Ford Interceptor Police Cruiser is now in service. Village Administrator Alan Riegsecker reported that the village did purchase a new Ferris 72” mower, replacing an older 61” grasshopper mower.
Riegsecker also reminded residents to not blow grass clippings into the village streets when mowing as it clogs the catch basins and storm drains. The villager recieved a quote for $14,995 to chip and seal Chase, Navajo, King and Lincoln streets.
In other business, Mayor Joe Beck presented a letter to Council from WC Prosecutor Katie Zartman requesting a $5000 donation from each municipality to help fund the Victim Assistance Program.
When Council asked Chief Schlosser’s opinion on the matter he replied, “It is a fantastic program that is both needed and warranted.” He does however have a serious issue with the village being asked to help cover the expense when it is a County entity and the County Commissioners can adjust their budget to fund this program.
Mayor Beck said the item will be tabled until the next regular Council meeting to give members time to think about or research information to the request.
Beck also asked for Council input on hosting a Stryker Summerfest this year or not, including a parade. All of Council was in favor of both so Beck said he will check on dates for the park rental and the ball moving on the planning of the festival.
Council member Sean Ingram said he thought it falls under the Village Welfare committee and even though Council member Sam Farmer is not on that committee, Ingram asked him to join as his knowledge as a Williams County Fair Board member would be an asset.
Council member Vicki Cameron suggested that the village look into providing Sanitizing Stations for the event as an added precaution.
Lastly, Mayor Beck mentioned that there is a group that is interested in starting a Community Garden. Riegsecker said there is land available for this located on Ellis St. beside the water plant.
He noted that it was done a couple years ago, and was nice for a while, but ended up with only a few individuals carrying the burden of the upkeep, so weeds took over.
He also noted that to be successful, people need to be committed to do the physical labor of planting, pulling weeds and watering.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned
