Stryker’s Tanner Clingaman Receives Eagle Scout Honors

DSC_1943 WEBTanner Clingaman of Stryker has recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor. He is a member of Troop #669 West Unity, OH and formerly Troop #79, Stryker, OH. Brad Wyrick serves as Scoutmaster and Craig Miller serves as Assistant Scoutmaster.

Tanner’s scouting career started in 2004 when he joined Stryker Cub Scout Pack #3079 as a Tiger Scout. He worked his way through the Cub Scout Ranks earning Cub Scouting’s highest honor, the Arrow of Light Award in February of 2008. He then crossed over into Stryker Boy Scout Troop #3079 in March of 2008 and earned his way up to Life Scout holding several positions within the Troop such as Patrol leader and Historian. He was elected to the Order of the Arrow (Scouting’s Honor Society) in July of 2010. Tanner completed 21 merit badges and planned and completed an Eagle project to earn his Eagle Rank on December 09, 2014. During his years in scouting, Tanner has participated in many community service projects such as the annual Scouting for Food drives, planting flowers and helping local people in the Stryker community and with the Village of Stryker on the Knight’s Landing project.

Tanner’s Eagle project consisted of the design and construction of a permanent cement and steel fire pit at Knight’s Landing, Stryker where several other Eagle projects have been constructed.

Tanner’s name will be added to the memorial marker commemorating the Eagle Scout projects constructed at this site. Stryker Boy Scout Troop 79 has been working with the Village in the development of the landing since its start.


He is the son of Jamie and Dawn Clingaman, Stryker and has 3 brothers, Hunter (Eagle Scout) and Hayden, at home, and Terence (Beth) of Bryan. Grandparents are Jim and Sue Clingaman, Stryker, Pam Clark, Bryan and Bill Straka, Mtn. Home, AR.

A senior (4.0 GPA) at Stryker High School, he plans to attend Defiance College in the fall in the field of Accounting. During his high school career at Stryker he has served as a member of the National Honor Society, Student Mentor, 4 Year member/letterman, 2013 & 2014 BBC Champion and 2014 Sectional Champion in Golf (advancing to State in 2011, 17th overall), 3 year member/letterman and Captain of the 2014-15 basketball team, 2 year member of the Stryker High School Band. Tanner has received BBC Scholar Athlete awards his Junior and Senior year and has received the All Ohio Scholar Athlete awards for the Fall and Winter sports seasons. He was recently selected to play in the Cage Classic All-Star game in Bryan on April 10th.

Tanner has worked the last 2 years at Riverside Greens Golf Course, Stryker and attends Stryker United Brethren Church where he is active in the youth group.


Tanner will be receiving his Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor Reception on Sunday, April 12, 2014 at 2:30 pm at the Stryker United Brethren Church.
