SWANTON BOARD OF EDUCATION: Board Votes To Put Tax Levy Renewal On The Ballot

The Swanton Board of Education held their meeting on Wednesday, December 15th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Following the hearing of public concerns, the Board moved to adopt the agenda as presented before moving on to hear the reports of the treasurer.

The following items were presented from the treasurer and approved by the board. Approval of the minutes from the previous meeting that took place on November 23rd.

The acceptance of numerous donations as well as appropriation modifications and estimated resource changes. The recommendation for a resolution to submit to electors for an existing tax levy. The tax levy is an existing levy and would be placed on the ballot to be renewed.

The board then moved to hear reports and recommendations of the superintendent with the following items being approved by the board.

A strategic priority update including a discussion of the school’s new spirit rock. Recommendations were then made regarding personnel changes, and the Swanton High School Graduating Class of 2022 was discussed.

A resolution was put forward regarding the expanding of the employment of substitute teachers for the 2021-2022 school year. This will allow non-degree holders to continue to work as substitute teachers for the remainder of the school year.

The board then moved to set the date for the 2022 Organizational meeting as well as the President Pro-Tem. Building reports and comments from board members were then heard before discussing executive session.

With no executive session being needed, the meeting was adjourned for the evening.
