On Saturday, September 30th, guests of all ages came together at the historical Wauseon Depot to celebrate The Museum of Fulton County’s Annual Hobo Day.
The perfect autumn weather provided an opportunity for attendees to wander around the premises surrounding the Depot.
The red B&O caboose that also sits on the grounds was open and welcomed visitors of all ages to take a step back in time. While outside, many of the younger guests enjoyed playing on The Little Wooden Train.
Within the depot, historical artifacts from the railroads that once crisscrossed the county were on exhibit.

In the eastern room of the building, a large model train exhibit created by the Swanton Area Model Railroad Club was on display.
The author of the Railroad Depots of Northwest Ohio book series, Mark Camp, was on hand to speak to the crowd about the history of the Wauseon Depot and area railroad lines.
Guests also learned about the men who frequently traveled cross-country via the railroad, commonly known as hobos. Hobos were unemployed individuals who wandered from place to place looking for work.

Following Camp’s informative talk, guests were invited to head outside and enjoy a delicious “Hobo Dinner” which consisted of sausage, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions, cornbread, dessert, and a drink. While attendees dined on picnic tables in the Depot yard, Tom Silveous played live music for all to enjoy.
The Museum of Fulton County hosts the Hobo Day on an annual basis. For additional information regarding Hobo Day, and other noteworthy events visit museumoffultoncounty.org.
