The Wauseon Public Library Will Participate in “Snapshot Day: A Day in the Life of Ohio Libraries”

WAUSEON—The Wauseon Public Library is joining libraries across the state to participate in “Snapshot Day:  A Day in the Life of Ohio Libraries” on November 12 to capture and share information about how important academic, public, school, and special libraries and library systems are to the state of Ohio.

During the month of November, the Wauseon Public Library will compile statistics, customer comments, photographs, videos, and other details representing a typical day at the library.  They will be added to those of other libraries across the state to raise awareness about the important role of libraries in Ohio.

The State Library of Ohio invites patrons and visitors to stop in and be a part of this historic day.  Libraries are more important than ever to our communities, and library usage is at record levels.  We want all the residents of Ohio, and particularly our Ohio lawmakers, to see what a typical day is like for an Ohio library.  Adequate state funding is vital to help libraries like ours maintain current programs and services. Reductions in funding make it difficult, and in some cases impossible, to provide new programs and services, purchase new materials, and support the delivery of materials to our patrons from other libraries.   This “snapshot” will help us communicate to lawmakers that their constituents, our patrons, rely on us for critical services.

Snapshot Day: A Day in the Life of Ohio Libraries is a project of the State Library of Ohio, the Ohio Library Council (OLC), Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN), the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO), Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK – a consortium of college and university libraries), the Ohio Educational Library Media Association (OELMA), and the Information Network for Ohio Schools (INFOhio).  Each year, Ohio libraries will participate in this advocacy effort by collecting photographs, stories, information, and comments to get a snapshot of a typical day in Ohio libraries.  All types of libraries are encouraged to participate and showcase what libraries do for Ohio residents.
