“Truth or Consequences”, was the speech topic of Sue Stamm of Archbold, at the May 20th Northwest Ohio Toastmasters’ meeting. This was the title of an old TV game program where there was a negative result of not answering correctly. She talked about how choices in life can be bad or good and that there are negative and positive consequences.
Sue provided several tragic news videos from the Toledo area. When individuals drink alcohol and drive the wrong way on an expressway; other people are killed that affects their extended families. She also showed a positive story of a man graduating from college in spite of a bad childhood environment and prison.
Larry Zuvers of Bryan, provided a speech on “Stop, Listen, Choose, Go” which was based on dealing with a hectic life. For a Christian, by slowing down, the guidance of the Holy Spirit can be heard. A reference was made to a recent popular You Tube video about a commencement speech on life choices called, “This is Water” by David Foster Wallace.
Karen Lyke, of Whitehouse, guided the meeting as Toastmaster. For table topics, Barb Steckly of Bryan, asked members to relate memories or plans for Memorial Day. Barb also provided an inspirational close on great quotes by Benjamin Franklin and Winston Churchill.
Loretta Torres of Fayette, guided a review of the program as general evaluator. Her guest college student visitor was an excellent Ah counter. Rebecca Loveless of Fayette, was a speech evaluator. Andy Lyke of Whitehouse, provided the words of the day as grammarian. ‘Inveigh’ means to loudly stand against something, while ‘Inveigle’ is to flatter or trick someone.
Darlene Sheperd, of Bryan and club president, conducted the business meeting and timed speeches. In July she will switch positions to be V.P. of education and Rebecca Lovelass will become club president.
