School levies in Northwest Ohio have been quite the topic this year as all of them have faced struggles due to cuts in their state revenue. Apparently Stryker Schools are also feeling the crunch and at the May 17, 2021 Board meeting, the BOE voted to approve the Renewal of an Emergency Levy on the November 2021 ballot.
Superintendent Nate Johnson said this will generate around $335,000 per year for the school.
Treasurer Jill Peters reported that for April 2021 the schools’ General Fund Cash Balance was $8,179,735.25, Total Revenue was $629,852.73 and Total Expenses were $473,586.28. The board accepted the report and approved her recommendations to accept the donation of $240 from Stryker Athletic Boosters for the football fund; the updated 5 Year Forecast; the establishment of the Class of 2025 Fund (incoming freshmen); and personnel contract for Kent Holsopple as Head Football Coach.
Also approved were the Superintendent’s Recommendations:
-Accept the resignation for Retirement of Ed Ruffer as Transportation Driver, effective at the end of 20-21 school year. (They board members and Superintendent all expressed their thanks for his many years of service and long time dedication.)
-Employment contracts and adjustments for all certified and classified personnel, beginning in the 21-22 school year
-Supplemental contracts for the 21-22 school year, for sports, contingent upon viable season starts and school related openings/closings and participation levels
-NEOLA guidelines
-21-22 Handbooks
-Overnight extended trips for the Spanish Club to Puerto Rico (June 26-30) and for Volleyball to Hillsdale College for camp (July 11-13)
Dean of Students, Beth Mohr, reported that Right to Read Week, which was being held May 17-21, was going well with the theme Reading is out of this world. Field Day was a Huge Success as Mr. Joe Keween and the Student Council did it up big with lots of extras this year.
Upcoming events include: Dare Graduation on May 24, Preschool Graduation on May 26, Awards Day and Early Release on May 27, and Teacher Work Day on May 28.
Mr. Dave Schultz, Principal, shared with the board that the Senior Exams were scheduled for May 20 and 21 and the Seniors’ Final Walk Thru would be held on the 21st at 2:30. This walk thru is a way for them to see the whole school one more time and be cheered on by all the other students, before they graduate.
Graduation will be held on May 23, indoors this year, for what Schultz described as “an excellent class!” On May 25th the FCCC Senior Recognition/Passport Day will be held on a Video format.
He reported that all students finished their State Tests. Upcoming events he mentioned were May 27 – early release at 1:05, May 28 Teacher Work Day, May 31 Memorial Day Parade at 10:30 at the Cemetery with Band in the parade; June 4 will be Grade Card Distribution.
The next regular scheduled BOE meeting is June 28, 2021.
