Update On Window Renovations Given To Williams County Commissioners

May 1, 2021Updated:August 30, 2021No Comments3 Mins Read

Gene Woodring, the Director of Maintenance for the Williams County Courthouse, met with the commissioners at the beginning of their Monday, April 26, 2021 session, to inform them on the Courthouse window replacement plan.

Woodring said that he has worked with a couple companies and got a quote for replacing one hundred sixty nine windows in the Courthouse.

That covers everything except the six curved ones that are on the second floor East and West sides (Auditor and Probate offices). The total budget would be $735,000.

He also worked with a Centennial Restoration out of Columbus, concerning the restoration of the six large curved windows.

That would be $35,860 to restore all the woodwork on the inside that has gone bad, down at the bottom. All the wainscoting and everything else would be an additional $16,595.

To put a matching curve exterior storm window on the outside of those windows would be another $36,615.

During discussion, Woodring said that it is the choice of the commissioners as to whether those windows are fixed in place or could be opened. The quote includes operating windows, instead of fixed ones.

There was further discussion and explanations about the replaced windows and the restored windows, with members of the Restoration Committee present.

Woodring explained how he determined which windows should be able to be opened and said that on the outside it will be symmetrical and mirror image, looking almost identical to what it does now.

The outcome of the presentation and discussion was that Commissioner Lew Hilkert will “have more communication with Eric” Bartzel from Garmen and Miller, and get back to them on it.

In the regular business of the morning, the commissioners approved:

-Resolution 152 Supplemental appropriations on behalf of WC Commissioners; Common Pleas Court; Hillside Country Living; Sheriff’s Office; Soil and Water; and Title Department

-Resolution 153 Entering into an agreement between Michael Frey and WC LEPC as submitted by WC EMA at a cost not to exceed $1,628

-Resolution 154 On behalf of OSU we are requesting the WC Auditor to Certify the dollar amount of Revenue pursuant to ORC 5705.03(B)

-Also signed: Request for Release of funds and certifications for Federally Funded State Projects; Credit card appropriations for the month of May from WC Recorder; Letter to the Village of West

Unity requesting funds to pay back portion of Grant B-X-19-1DA-1 – Village of West Unity Water Line Improvement Project; County Property permit for DAV Cookout on May 28, 2021 from 11 a.m to 12 pm; Dog Warden Report for 4/12-18; Transfer request from Sheriff of two patrol bicycles to Pioneer Police Department

-Payment of bills

-Minutes dated April 22, 2021

In other business, the commissioners met with directors of the Car Show Cruise-In concerning a change needed on the permit.

It was agreed that it would be more convenient for the courts and the employees in the courthouse if the lineup would not start until 5:30 instead of at 5:00 as it has been.

So the permit is changed to be set from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on the Fridays when the Cruise-In is held in Bryan.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned and there was no session held on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
