WAUSEON (April 1, 2024) – The Indians spotted Edon a 1-0 lead before storming back thanks to 12 hits to get a 13-3 win in five innings in one of the few games that were played on Monday due to rain.
Edon opened the game with singles by Makayla Anspaugh and Allyson Derck followed by an Alexis Breier flyball to left field that was misplayed which allowed Anspaugh to score to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead.
Wauseon starter Ella Hageman would settle in after that and retire the next three Edon batters to end the inning.
The Indians put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the first to get the lead back as Ava Kovar reached on an error and Bri Hays drew a walk.
That set the stage for senior Danica Pack to lace a three-run homer over the left field fence to give Wauseon a 3-1 lead.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second inning for Wauseon as Hageman and Shelby Leija singled to put runners on the corners and no outs.
Kayla Menningen then layed down a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher to score Hageman and after a Bella McGuire walk, Kylerr Bronson drove in two runs with a single to left to extend the lead to 6-1.
Kovar would then cap off the five-run inning for the Indians with a two-run blast to center for an 8-1 Wauseon lead after two innings.
Edon would get one run back in the third inning off a single by Madison Ogden and two Wauseon errors scored Ogden to make the score 8-2.
Wauseon plated three more runs in the third after an error and single led to McGuire knocking in two runs on a single and McGuire would eventually come around to steal home to push the lead to 11-2.
The lead was 11-3 for the Indians going to home half of the fifth where another two-out rally by Wauseon ended the game.
McGuire singled to right and advanced to second on the throw before scoring on a single by Bronson to make it 12-3.
Wauseon loaded the bases after a single by Kovar and Hays was hit by a pitch leading to Layla Martinez driving a pitch to deep right to drive in Bronson to end the game.
McGuire, Bronson, Kovar, Pack, and Leija had two hits each on the night for Wauseon with Pack and Bronson each driving in three runs.
Hageman got the win in the circle going five innings and allowing just three Edon hits after the shaky first inning.
Edon totaled five singles for the game with Ana Owens accounting for two.
