VARSITY TRACK: Wauseon Boys Lead Area Contingent At Napoleon Wildcat Invitational

NAPOLEON (April 18, 2026) – Despite battling the rainy and overcast conditions, the Wauseon Indians put together quite a performance in the Napoleon Wildcat Invitational Track Meet at Charles Buckenmeyer Stadium.

Coach Joe Allen’s squad finished as runner-up in the boys’ division behind the strength of capturing three different field event titles as well as claiming the 800 relay title, its only title in the running events.

Eastwood won the boys team title with 124 points, followed by Wauseon (109), Bryan (102½), Defiance (70), Celina (70), Archbold (57½), Oregon Clay (52), Ottawa Hills (37), Napoleon (33) and Ayersville (6).

Wauseon got individual titles from Brayden Burkholder in the shot put (56-½), Max Mouch in the high jump (6-0) and Dylan Burkholder in the long jump (20-3½). The 800 relay of Collin Mennetti, Clete Van Etten, Mouch and Riley Riegsecker edged out Eastwood in a close finish with a time of 1:33.26. The 400 relay of Mennetti, Weston Smith, Dylan Burkholder and A’Zarrion Hicks was second in 46.36 seconds.

Mennetti was also third in the 300 hurdles (44.08). Hicks was third in the long jump (19-9¾) and the 110 hurdles (17.78).

Bryan junior sprinter Spencer Woodward claimed the 400-meter title with a time of 51.59 seconds. He was also runner-up in the 200 (23.37) and was third in the 100 (11.84).

Other top finishers for the Golden Bears were Colton Sheline, who was third in the 1600 (4:46.13) and the 3200 (10:06.99). Josiah Cummins was second in the 3200 (10:06.44). Carter Altaffer was third in the 400 (53.23) and Cody Shaffer was third in the shot put (47-5½).

The 1600 relay of Altaffer, Elijah Cummins, Adam Elzey and Woodward was runner-up (3:38.2), and the 3200 relay of Elijah Cummins, Josiah Cummins, Khristopher Alspaugh and Jeremiah Taylor was also runner-up in 8:42.04.

Archbold’s Jude Hudson captured the 1600 crown with a time of 4:45.29. He also finished third in the 800 (2:10.85). Colton Nofziger was runner-up in the 110 hurdles (17.76).

The Bluestreaks also took the 3200 relay, with Connor Plassman, Bo King, Trevor Osterland and Jude Hudson being clocked at 8:29.34. The 1600 relay of Rocco Rodger, Aiden Wyse, Xavier Gericke and Amarion Moreno was third (3:42.63).

Celina captured the girls’ division title with 126½ points, followed by Napoleon (101½), Eastwood (95), Archbold (66½), Wauseon (53), Ayersville (52), Oregon Clay (51), Defiance (37½), Ottawa Hills (37) and Bryan (33).

Wauseon’s Kara Ehrsam was the area’s lone individual champion, claiming the shot put with a toss of 37-¼. She was runner-up in the discus (107-4).

Archbold won the 800 relay as the quartet of Evy Roth, Karly Kruse, Lydia Frey and Aubree Hurst were timed in 1:50.38. The 1600 relay of Aubree Hurst, Madison Burkle, Brynn Hurst and Frey placed third (4:27.54). Brynn Hurst was third in the 800 (2:36.05).

Other top area individual finishers were Emme Miller of Bryan, who was second in the 300 hurdles (52.28); Audrey Strader of Wauseon, who was second in the 400 (1:02.82); and Ella Rhoades of Wauseon, who was third in the 3200 (11:58.89).
