Velma Neuenschwander (1927-2022)

Velma F. Neuenschwander, age 94, of Delta, peacefully passed away early Saturday morning, September 24, 2022 at Swanton Valley Care Center.

She was born Massillon, Ohio on November 24, 1927 to Homer O. Paul and Ellen (Whitmer) Paul. On August 18, 1946 in Wauseon, she married Lowell Neuenschwander and he survives.

Velma was a homemaker by choice, caring for her loving husband and children; while attending to the necessary daily tasks around the house.


She enjoyed gardening, camping, snowmobiling and baking; especially her famous cookies and pies.

Velma is survived by her husband of 76 years, Lowell; children, Ronald (Celia) Neuenschwander, Robert Neuenschwander, Rick (Kris) Neuenschwander, Randy (Jean) Neuenschwander, Cathy Sherman and Cheryl (John) Fitch; 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

he was preceded in death by her brother, Odell DeCrew and sister, Betty Marvin and twin sister, Thelma Beavers; grandchildren, Michael Neuenschwander and Ciara Neuenschwander; great granddaughter, Alexandria Grant and son-in-law, David Sherman.

Friends will be received from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta. A funeral service honoring Velma’s life will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 29, 2022 also at the funeral. Interment will follow at Wauseon Union Cemetery. Pastors Eli Koehler and Donald Krieger will be officiating
