Virgie I. King (1920 – 2017)

Virgie I. King, 96 years, of West Unity, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Evergreen Manor, where she was a resident for the past two years. Virgie was born June 21, 1920 in Williams County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roy and Alma (Brace) Stambaugh. She was a 1939 graduate of Stryker High School. She married Leon D. King on April 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 1981.

A devoted wife and mother, Virgie cared for her family with tender loving care. She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church in Waldron, Michigan, where she volunteered her time. She also volunteered her time and abilities at Care and Share in Archbold. Virgie was a collector of cookbooks and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, cats and spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family.

Surviving are her two children, Gary (Barb) King of West Unity and Vivian (Brad) Faler of Archbold; three grandchildren, Chris (Misty) King of Archbold, Nathan (Lanette) Faler of Wauseon and Daniel Anthony of South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Norma) Stambaugh of Bryan; three sisters, Dorothy Sheets of Bryan, Donna Oyer of Stryker and Ruth Davis of Bryan. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Glenn, Al and Russ Stambaugh and two sisters, Lucy Burns and Mary Ussery.

Visitation for Virgie I. King will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity, where Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Monday with Pastor Dee Custar officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.


Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Salem Mennonite Church, 13751 S. Tripp Road, Waldron, Michigan 49288.
