The Wauseon Board of Education held their meeting on Monday, August 10, 2026. The meeting began at 5 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by several personnel additions to the agenda and the introduction of newly hired staff.
The board then approved the previous meeting’s minutes with three amendments correcting salary schedule and supplemental contract placements.
Financial business included an appropriation adjustment for the district’s student-managed activity fund.
The board added $4,196.45 in carryover encumbrances to the existing appropriation of $269,245.64, bringing the total to $273,442.09.
Board members also accepted a $525 donation from the Fulton County Cattle Feeders Association for the district’s FFA program.
A Then and Now Certificate for $3,391.07 in annual dues to the HPS Corporation was also approved.
Personnel action included supplemental contracts covering informal mentors, extended-day assignments for art education and school counseling, and a piano accompanist position.
The board also approved a preschool bus aide, increased the scheduled hours for two middle school cooks and authorized several student and adult pool and athletic workers, along with three bus driver trainees.
Those routine staffing matters led into a more substantial resolution involving school psychologist Timothy McQuade.
The board accepted McQuade’s resignation for retirement purposes, retroactive to June 1, before rehiring him under a one-year contract running from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027.
The resolution explained that Ohio law allows McQuade to initiate his earned State Teachers Retirement System benefits while remaining employed, although those benefits are forfeited during the first two months of reemployment.
By rehiring McQuade, the board said the district would maintain continuity while avoiding the costs and uncertainties of conducting a search for a new school psychologist.
Beyond personnel matters, the board approved the Wauseon High School Best Buddies chapter as an extracurricular club beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
A student activity fund was also established to account for the club’s financial activity.
With that action completed, the board turned to a real estate agreement involving land immediately adjacent to the district’s campus.
The agreement covers three properties located at 5573, 5595 and 5741 County Road 13, all owned by Thomas C. Yackee.
According to the resolution, the properties are considered suitable for an expansion of the district’s campus. The board and seller have agreed on a purchase price and other terms.
The superintendent, treasurer and board president were authorized to execute the necessary documents and complete the purchase before the meeting was adjourned.
