The Wauseon Board of Education held their Organizational Meeting on Monday, January 8th. The meeting began at 5:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The oath was then administered for new board members Phil Kessler and Chad Richer. It was then time for the board to elect a new board president and vice president.
Amy Fisher was chosen as the board president and Larry Zimmerman was chosen as the vice president, with each of them also having the oath administered to them.
The board then moved to set the date, time, and place for this year’s regular board meetings, before appointing the Superintendent as the district’s purchasing agent.
The board also moved to establish a records commission consisting of the board president, superintendent, and treasurer. A waiving of the reading of minutes for the previous meeting then took place due to members already being provided a copy.
Authorizations were then given to the superintendent and treasurer for various job duties in 2024. Next, Larry Zimmerman was nominated as the Legislative Liaison for the Ohio School Board Association, with Curt Crew also being nominated as the Student Achievement Liaison. It was then, at 5:50 p.m., that the Organizational Meeting was adjourned.
The board’s regular meeting began at 5:51 p.m. with board members being recognized and commended for School Board Recognition Month.
The board then heard from Director of Instructional Services, Michelle Leatherman, in regard to the District Report card. Minutes were then approved, as well as the following items as part of a Consent Agenda for the treasurer report.
Monthly Financial Reports, a list of donations from the community, then and now certificates, and FY24 Amended Appropriations.
A list of personnel recommendations was approved next before a discussion commenced regarding the upcoming solar eclipse.
Superintendent Armstrong stated that the Fulton County Superintendents have decided to put out a joint statement regarding the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. This statement will explain that all schools in the county will be closed for that day as a calamity day, due to the influx of people that are expected.
Executive session was then entered at 6:48 p.m. With no action being taken the meeting was adjourned.
