BRYAN — It took a fifth-place finish by Liberty Center in the final event, the boys 1600-meter relay in which the Tigers were able to come through just enough to outlast runner-up Wauseon by just three points, 139-136, in capturing the 2026 Northwest Ohio Athletic League Track and Field title at Golden Bears Stadium on Friday, May 15.

Liberty Center scored nine points with Ethan Gray and Adam Foster finishing fourth and fifth respectively in the 200-meter dash final, to pull them ahead of Wauseon by nine points, 135-126, entering the 1600-meter relay.

Despite a first-place finish by Wauseon in the 1600 relay which consisted of Collin Mennetti, Clete Van Etten, Tyler Tester, and Riley Riegsecker with a time of 3:31.87, the Indians, after putting up a valiant effort in the running event finals, unfortunately fell short of winning the league crown.

Evergreen was third with 102.5 points followed by Bryan (92), Archbold (83.5), Patrick Henry (56), Swanton (38) and Delta (13).

After winning the long jump title (20-10 ¼) on Tuesday, Evergreen’s Will Ruetz put together quite a performance in his final league meet.

Ruetz swept both the 110 (15.32) and 300 (40.56) hurdle events and also led off the 400-meter relay team which consisted of Breyden Hoffman, Ethan Nash and Luke Woodring to another league title in 43.18 seconds.

Hoffman and Woodring also dominated in the sprint finals as well. Hoffman swept both the 100 (11.12) and the 200 (22.47). Woodring finished runner-up in both the 100 (11.4) and the 200 (23.32).

Other individual league champions in the boys’ division were Grant Smith of Patrick Henry (discus); Hunter Spangler (shot put); Brady Chapa (high jump and 800); Levi Spade (pole vault) of Liberty Center; Jude Hudson of Archbold (1600); Riley Riegsecker of Wauseon (400), and Colton Sheline of Bryan (3200).

Archbold’s 3200 relay of Connor Plassman, Trevor Osterland, Bo King, and Jude Hudson took first with a time of 8:17.69. Wauseon captured the 800 relay with Mennetti, Van Etten, Max Mouch and Riegsecker with a time of 1:31.26.

In the girls’ meet, Patrick Henry claimed the league title with 145 points followed by Archbold (126.5), Wauseon (99), Liberty Center (98.5), Bryan (72), Evergreen (64), Delta (35), and Swanton (19).

Patrick Henry’s Payton Boyer was the lone double individual league champion sweeping the shot put (40-8 ¾) and discus (128-1) titles on Tuesday.

Other individual league champions were Carys Crossland (high jump) and Ada Christman (400) of Patrick Henry; Quinn Bailey (pole vault) and Colbie Strayer (3200) of Liberty Center; Audrey Robinson of Swanton (long jump); Emme Miller (100 hurdles) and Nicolette Stickney (1600) of Bryan; Emmerie Rodriguez of Wauseon (300 hurdles); Brynn Hurst (800) and Jade Frey (200) of Archbold and Hallie Bryan of Evergreen (100).

The Streaks also captured a pair of relay titles. The 400 relay of Evy Roth, Irelyn Selgo, Emersyn Selgo, and Jade Frey (50.70) and the 800 relay of Roth, Karly Kruse, Emersyn Selgo, and Lydia Frey (1:47.86).
