AFTER MEETING CHAT … Often after a council meeting ends for the villages and cities in Northwest Ohio, short visits are enjoyed before exiting the building. Seen here, Wauseon Councilman Patrick Griggs and Mayor Kathy Huner were heard chatting about the Ohio State football season as they pushed their chairs in following a very short council meeting on January 4, 2021. Councilman Patrick Griggs reported on the Tree Commission to Wauseon City Council at the January 4, 2021 regular meeting. Griggs said that they continued the discussion about Tree City USA.

The original plan was to have it on April 21, 2021 at The Oasis, but it has been decided to move it to June 16, at Homecoming Park to help with social distancing, according to Stephanie Miller the Regional Urban Forester.

The committee talked about using in town businesses for it, providing Box Lunches from AK Designs and coffee from Red Rambler, and having people see the properties at Homecoming Park with Trail walks.

He also reported that there are 39 trees that need removal throughout the city. On December 18, 2020 a plaque was put on the Oklahoma Tree to honor Jim Spiess as he was influential in getting that tree, and a plaque was put up at the Spruce Tree out front of the Village Building, honoring Jerry Matheny who was a former Wauseon Mayor.

In Regular business, council voted to approve:

• Minutes of December 21, 2020 Regular Council meeting, December 30, 2020 Special Council meeting, and December 30, 2020 Committee of the Whole

• Resolution 2021-1 A Resolution authorizing the Mayor to Renew an agreement with Schoenhardt and Associates for Accounting Services needed to handle the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)

• New Business

• Accepting mayor’s appointment of Keith Torbet to the Maumee Valley Planning Organization (yearly appointment)

• Liquor licenses for Kam Wah, Jay Petroleum and Ironwood Golf Course

• Payment of Bills

Meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
