The Wauseon City Council held their meeting on Monday, February 22nd. The meeting began at 5:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Approval of the minutes took place next, with minutes from the February 5th regular meeting and February 15th Committee of the Whole minutes being approved.

Committee reports were then heard, with the Tree Commission meeting report going first. Discussion that took place revolved around a new tree ordinance before the discussion shifted to the Park Board report.

The idea of adding rental hours to the pool schedule was discussed, along with replacing some benches. Some park benches were designed and made by the Eagle Scouts.

These benches were put into the trails at different locations and were designed to facilitate the elderly and those with physical disabilities.

It was stated that the Rotary would like to replace city benches with these newer kinds of benches, in order to make things more uniform and be more accessible.

There has also been discussion regarding donations being accepted for plaques that may be put on them.

Department head reports came next, with Police Chief Kevin Chittenden speaking first. The new Durangos are in and are currently down at the builders.

The department has also posted a civil service test for an entry-level patrol position. The chief also spoke about the Heroes vs Heroes basketball game that took place that weekend.

Several officers and dispatch personnel played in the game or helped in some manner. The chief also stated that there was a really good crowd and most of the games ended up pretty close.

Public Service Director Keith Torbet spoke next and spoke about the groundskeeper position. In reference to that, it was also stated the city is waiting on communications in order to get things properly formatted for the personnel committee.

Torbet next stated that work is being done with ODOT for an outstanding accounts receivable the city has with them.

Lastly, Torbet informed council about the upcoming awards and dinner on April 25th for the Fulton County Economic Development Corporation. The event will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Birchwood Meadows.

Council then moved to approve the following legislative items. Resolution 2024-5 authorizing the mayor to enter into a service agreement with IWORQ Systems, Inc. for software applications and services for the Department of Building and Housing; and declaring an emergency.

Resolution 2024-6 authorizing the mayor to advertise for bids for street resurfacing on Oak Street; authorizing the mayor to accept the lowest and best bid; and authorizing the mayor to enter into a contract with the lowest and best bidder; and declaring an emergency.

Resolution 2024-7 authorizing the mayor and/or her designee to enter into a Fire and Emergency Protection Agreement with Clinton Township; and declaring an emergency.

Resolution 2024-8 authorizing the mayor and/or her designee to enter into a Fire and Emergency Protection Agreement with Dover Township; and declaring an emergency. Council next moved to approve the following motions made by council.

A motion to authorize the police chief to accept the JAG grant. A motion to approve the mayor’s appointments to various boards and commissions. A motion to approve and pay the list of bills as presented.

With additional business to attend to, the meeting was adjourned at 5:24 p.m.
