After a summer break, the West Unity Three Arts Club met on September 21 at the home of Bobbie Clark.
Lauren Garrett, a senior at Hilltop High School, was the guest speaker. Last June she attended Buckeye Girl’s State at Alliance University east of Cleveland as a delegate sponsored by the Club.
Lauren stated that it was a very positive experience for her and she learned a lot about the workings of government at all levels. Campaigning for an office was a lot of fun. She ran for county recorder and was elected. Lauren enjoyed meeting girls from all over the state of Ohio. One of the highlights of the week for her was when the Lt. Governor of Ohio came and spoke to the girls. In closing Lauren emphasized that Buckeye Girls State was very beneficial and worthwhile. She would encourage all junior girls to apply to go as a delegate.
President Emily Schlosser called the meeting to order. Fifteen members answered the roll call with their favorite fall recipe.
Thank yous were read from the Cynthia Boyer family and the Norma Burrowes family. Thank yous were also received from Hannah Carothers and Cody Zuver who received the Three Arts Club scholarships for $500 each. Hannah is attending Akron University majoring in nursing, and Cody is attending Northwest State Community College majoring in network communication.
The Club will have a Premiere Jewelry fundraising party on October 12 at the Presbyterian Church in West Unity starting at 6:30.
The meeting was then adjourned, and delicious refreshments were served by Bobbie Clark and Shirley Watson.
