The West Unity Village Council gathered for a special meeting held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 6:00 PM to address a few maintenance projects within the community. The meeting was kicked off with the call to order and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Members present included Mayor Don Leu, Village Administrator Josh Fritsch, Fiscal Officer Sarah Higdon, Kevin Gray, Stephen Marvin, Dave Short, Shawn Blaisdell, and Nathan Massie.
The council then began discussing various options to address the water tank issue in the village.
First, Ordinance No. 2025-5 was discussed, an ordinance to make appropriations for current and other expenditures for the village during the fiscal year.
To determine where to appropriate the fundings for this project, the council must adopt this ordinance in order to change the budget.
The council voted to unanimously pass and declare the situation an emergency to avoid going out to bid. This expedites the process of repair as they plan to receive immediate service rather than going through the lengthy bid process.
Then, the council suspended the rules of this ordinance, passing unanimously as well. Once the rules were suspended, the revised ordinance was then approved, which increased appropriations for the water fund by $90,000 in order to clean and improve the softeners.
A few sidewalks are also getting repaired, including the sidewalk near the deli, as well as the sidewalk near Wyse Guys Pizza. The total cost for these improvements are estimated at $27,800.
The council also discussed a property issue and health insurance changes before adjourning at 6:57 p.m. The next meeting will take place April 10, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
