Locomotives Suffer Big Loss To NWOAL Foe Swanton

February 15, 2014Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

SWANTON 2/14/14—The 2013-2014 season did not end the way the Montpelier Locomotives wanted it to, as they suffered a 84-40 trouncing at the hands of NWOAL rival Swanton.

The Bulldogs wasted little time taking complete control of the contest, as they jumped out to an 18 point lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Locos 24-6 in the opening quarter.

Things did not get much better for Montpelier in the second period, as they again were outscored by a double digit margin, this time on the short end of a 26-7 deficit. At the break, the Bulldogs of Swanton led the Montpelier Locomotives by a convincing 50-13 margin.

While the third quarter was not as lopsided as the first two had been, Montpelier was unable to keep the Bulldogs from pulling away even more than they already had. The Loco offense was able to score ten points in the third quarter, but gave up 19 on the defensive end, making the score 69-23 at the end of three quarters of action.

Montpelier was able to close the gap in the fourth quarter, but it was too late to start building any momentum. The Locos won the fourth quarter 17-15, but making the final tally 84-40 in favor of the Swanton Bulldogs.

Matzinger led the Locos with seven points in the contest. Surbey was able to put up five, Houk, McCord, Schuman, and Hulbert all contributed four, Leung and Lyons both scored three, and Shoup, Matson, and Snyder finished the night with two points of the Locos.

SCORING BY QUARTER:
Swanton: 24, 26, 19, 15 for 84
Montpelier: 6, 7, 10, 17 for 40

The Locos finished the NWOAL season with and 0-8 league record.
