Millcreek-West Unity Board Of Education Starts Preparations For 2014-15 School Year

Members of the Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education met May 19 at 6:00 PM for their regular meeting. Present for the meeting were Sarah Carothers, Rob Baker, Brian Wieland, and Kellie Gray. Absent was Mr. Girrel. With the approval of the night’s agenda and the final reading of the NEOLA policies Vol. 31 #1 and #2, Superintendent Larry Long took a few moments to go over a few items in the agenda and Rob Baker presented a brief Legislative Liaison report.

Gaining approval during the consent agenda for the evening were several items pertaining to both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years. Approvals included:

~ minutes from the April 2014 Board of Education meetings,
~financial Statements and investments for April 2014,
~the agreement with Healthcare Process Consulting, Inc. for July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017 to manage the district’s Ohio Medicaid School Program with a $2250 annual fee,
~the contract with the accounting firm of Julian & Grube in the amount of $1600 each year for 2 years, to perform the agreed upon procedures engagement for the district’s 2013-14 and 2014-15 Medicaid Service Providers Cost report as specified by the Ohio Department of Education,
~the retirement of Deb Nixon at the end of the 2014-15 school year,
~donations of $1500 from the West Unity Lions Club for scholarships, $for the Mary Suter Scholarship, and $600 for the James Clark Scholarship,
~the resolution regarding opposition to wording used in Article VI, Section 2 of the Ohio Constitution,
~Graduate hours for Sarah Rupp,
~bus drivers and bus routes for the 2014-15 school year and for students riding the North Central bus to Four County,
~the substitute teachers and classified substitutes as a Reasonable Assurance for the 2014-15 school year,
~membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for students in grade 7-12 for the 2014-15 school year,
~Summer OGT for 15.5 hours at $25 per hour and Summer Intervention for 32 hours at $25 per hour,
~non-renewal of current long term sub positions for Cherie Mercer and Kim Goosman,
~the purchase of band uniforms in the amount of $22,710,
~employments for Kellie Durham (Substitute Secretary and Athletic Worker), Karen Brown (Substitute Teacher), Susan Elliot (Substitute Teacher), Dave Miller (Substitute Teacher), and Paul Heisey (Substitute Cafeteria Worker), and
~one year limited contracts for Cherie Mercer and Shannon Swartz as Para Professionals.

Also gaining approval was the FY14 Five Year Forecast and assumptions.


The board moved into executive session to consider preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees. No further action was taken.
