Stryker Rotary Helps Provide School Supplies To Stryker Elementary

Tim and Pam Oberlin told the Stryker Rotary Club about a program that was started last year to assist with the school supplies for Stryker grade school students. It started as an outreach program through the Methodist Church, but grew to include many of the local churches, as well as the community. Last year the effort provided sufficient supplies for three grade levels in the elementary school.

Pam told the club she had help from many people in the community, and worked with a representative from each of the local churches to provide the needed supplies. Pam found the Stryker community to be very giving and supportive. This year she has an even larger objective and is planning to provide the supplies for the entire Stryker Elementary School. She estimates the project will require about $3000 in school supplies.

The fund raising had already began with a spaghetti supper on January 24th and a potato bar on February 6th. Additional fund raisers had been planned during the school year but the severe winter made it much more challenging to turn those plans into reality. On May 1st another fund raiser was held at Mama Deluccia’s where 15% of the sales as well as the tips were donated to the project.

Pam is still working out the details for more events before school begins in the fall. She is also counting on the overwhelming support she was blessed with last year from the community as well as each of the local congregations to make this goal a reality.
