The subjects of recycling and trash were discussed at the February 21 meeting of the Blakeslee Village Council.
“From the last meeting to this meeting,” reported Fiscal Officer Beth Rediger, “…we brought in $6,600, and we spent out I think $2,900. That’s the trash money coming in.”
“That’s the big thing…the trash money coming in. We’ve collected…for 32 people so far out of the 52. I get a lot in March, or when people get their taxes done.”
“I noticed a lot of people seem to be confused on the recycle pickup,” said Councilor Cletus Radabaugh. Ms. Rediger asked, “Because it went to every other week? They did that in every town. In Stryker we were second and fourth. Then we went to every other week, and it took a while.”
“What we did, we tried to post like three months out. I’ll tell people a date, just to try to get them used to it. We switched in October.”
There was no legislation on the docket, but Ms. Rediger said that that should change at the next meeting. “We should be getting some for next month from the Joint Waste Management District out of Defiance. It’s something everybody in the county is a part of.”
“They have a waste management plan, and they’ve done some changes to the bylaws, so we’ll have to pass a resolution. I got contacted in our email that says we’ll be getting a resolution to pass within like the next 90 days.”
Referencing the COVID situation, Mr. Radabaugh inquired, “Is the State putting out any regulations on summer celebrations and stuff?” “No,” Ms. Rediger replied, “I have not seen anything yet.” “Didn’t they open the bars and everything now,” asked Councilor Cody Reynolds.
“They have,” Ms. Rediger answered. Radabaugh asked, “They took all the curfews off I believe, right?” “Yeah,” said Ms. Rediger. “I think there’ll probably still be something for distancing of some sort.”
“I mean, we’re still doing the masks and the social distancing I think there’s probably still going to be some guidelines I would imagine this year, but I haven’t heard of anything.”
