ONE OF MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS … On April 17, 2021, during the graduating Cadets ceremony at the Rocket Pavillion at U.T., Petty Officer 2nd Class Kian Moore was given a huge award. The VFW awarded him, in special recognition of outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership ability, the Navel Sea Cadet Corps Citation and Medal Award. The very next day, he was promoted to LPO and is now leader of the Second Squad of the Commodore Perry Cadets. (PHOTO PROVIDED)

Most of us have or had big dreams for life when we were in High School, but some kids start working on them sooner than others. Kian Moore, of Delta, who now attends ANSAT High School in Toledo, is one of those students.
ANSAT stands for Aerospace Natural Science and Technology, and just reading the name of the school gives you some idea of where his interests lie.
His parents, Kelly and Mary Moore, could not be prouder of him if they tried, and who wouldn’t be? Kian sports a resume that looks like it belongs to a 40 year old, and when asked how he has been able to do all of those things and accomplish so much at only 16 years of age, he says, “Well, it took a lot of running around and driving a lot, but we find a way.”
Kian’s number one love in life, which began a few years ago when his family started attending Haven Heights Baptist Church in Wauseon, is Jesus. For his interview he wore a simple gray sweatshirt with neat lettering across the front that stated simply, Jesus Loves You.
“About a year ago, kids started asking me questions about why I don’t do some of the things they do,” Kian said in his interview. “I started explaining about what the Bible says about how you have to have a relationship with Christ to get to heaven.”
“Since I started talking about it…it really went deep for me. I study my Bible every night now and it’s fun.” He was baptized five months ago, and says he is big on telling everyone that Jesus loves them. “My friends from Delta play video games with me and we discuss scriptural stuff while we play,” he added.
Kian’s grandfather was in the Marine Corps and his father, Kelly, got him interested in the military at a very young age. He joined the Navy League Cadets at the University of Toledo campus when he was ten years old and is now a Sea Cadet.
He plans to enlist in the Navy, and will be able to go in as an E2 (Seaman Apprentice) because of all the years he has had with the Cadets. Normally people enlist as E1.
He plans to attend the Academy, either Coast Guard or Navel to become a pilot. Speaking of being a pilot, Kian is already on his way to that goal, as he is in training at The Toledo Airport as part of ANSAT, to get his pilot’s license.
He started that process last year as a freshman in high school. Most of the nineteen in his class who are getting their A and P (Airframe and Power Plant) training, in which they are all learning to work on aircraft, begin as Sophomores. Some of them choose to also become pilots and Kian is one of those.
Wrestling is seen by his parents as his second love. “It gives him drive,” his dad said. He began at the age of 5, in 2010, and is, in words, “super competitive.” He has gone to State competition three times and the Pre-Season Nationals, with his team from Delta High School.
Now he wrestles with Bowsher as that is one of the schools that ANSAT allows their students to attend, as the Toledo Public School district funds ANSAT. Kian shared that he was sad to leave Delta High School wrestling, but he loves ANSAT and as their rules say he can only wrestle with a Toledo School team, he has chosen Bowsher High School and is enjoying wrestling there as well.
His mentor in wrestling is “The Great Mojo”,who was an Olympic wrestler and who beat Leon Spinks in a Wrestling/Boxing Match. (He is in his 70’s now and his son, “Little Wojo” coaches with him.). Kian is proud to know them and honored to be mentored by “The Great Wojo.”
Officially, in the Sea Cadets, Kian is a United States Naval Sea Cadet with the Commodore Perry Division in Toledo, Ohio, as a Petty Officer. He is currently a 16 year old sophomore at ANSAT High School and earlier this month he was accepted into the University of Toledo where his classes will run tandem with his HS classes. He will graduate from ANSAT High School and with an Associates Degree from UT at the same time.
Another momentous occurrence in this young man’s life, shared by his proud father, is that recently, a “Kent State University Underclassman and Professor has brought Kian in on The University of Kent State and NASA Mission to Mars Drone project. Kian and his team “Drone Space” won a contest a few weeks back developing a public drone tracking App.
Kent State University took 5 other students as well putting the team together with Kent State and NASA. They will be working on Drone limitations, the issues drones will have in low gravity and logistics.
Kian has accepted and will be part of the Kent State team. He was told he may have to deliver a synopsis at Kent State University as well, and NASA most likely will be present.”
Kian says he loves the SpaceX program and NASA and is thinking about becoming an Astronaut in the future. He hopes to be one of the first people to help settle Mars and the drones he is helping to develop now, will be used to pick up food and supply it out to the Colonies, keeping them supplied.
His Drone Team has already developed an App to track drones. “It is a social media app in which you can interact with other drone owners and keep track of where they are. It also shows where the airspace is that is allowable so one doesn’t fly into no fly areas,” he explained.
He thoroughly enjoys watching SpaceX online when they are doing liftoffs and landings and said it was “totally sweet to see the first rocket ever that was able to land back on earth.”
Besides all this, Kian found time to join the 4-H group, Kountry Kids, out of Wauseon, a few years ago, so he can enter his New Zealand Market rabbit in the fair. He loves animals and he is inspired by how involved in the Community 4-H is, as he holds Community Involvement very high in his heart.
Other interests he holds are: rebuilding his 1970 Mustang with is dad as they both love vintage cars; building PT109 and other WWI and II airplanes and boats; participating in WWI reenactments since he was one year old; being a nose guard in Football; going on mission trips like the one he took to Kentucky in 2019; and being on Active Duty at the Toledo Coast Guard Base, or Station Toledo.
This article has barely scratched the surface of all that Kian has accomplished already and one would have to read his Resume which he wrote up at the request of the Kent State professor with whom he is now working on the Mars Drone, in order to see it all.
For those interested in more, we are including his wow factor resume, rather run together, but with all the pertinent info.
