Two hundred and fifty tickets were all sold, at $20 each, for Bryan, Ohio’s first Chocolate Walk which was held on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
Hosted by the Bryan Development Foundation, partnering with the Bryan Chamber of Commerce, the event had 35 to 40 local businesses handing out chocolate in some form to the participants.
Everyone braved the weather, as it was a rather cold and rainy evening, traipsing in and out of each business and filling their bags with chocolate.
It was like an adult version of Trick or Treating! It was scheduled to be held out on the sidewalks but due to the weather, most of them were moved indoors.
A sturdy bag, along with a map and a bottle of water were given out when those who bought tickets had their wrist band fastened on to show they were in it for the chocolate.
Besides that they were given a ticket to get a free drink at either Seasons Bistro or Kora’s Brew, where they were treated to live music and more chocolate.
The chocolate came in all forms, from puppy chow to gourmet chocolate coated pretzels, chocolate beer to a roll of Necco Chocolate Wafers, and even a delicious chocolate mousse. Some served samples of wine or beer with the chocolate.
It was a long walk but for ‘chocoholics’, it was well worth it. Chamber Director Dan Yahraus said at the end that they had received a lot of good feedback and he cannot imagine it not being done again as it seems to have been a great success. (PHOTOS BY REBECCA MILLER, STAFF)
