The Village of Blakeslee held their council meeting on Sunday July 18th at 4:00pm. Council member Nick Reed was absent. A concern was raised by Bob Mohre regarding his interest in filling the vacant council seat left by his mother, Dorothy Mohre, who recently passed away.
After a brief discussion a motion was made to appoint Bob Mohre to the vacant council seat term ending December 31st, 2021. The motion was passed. Mayor Muehlfeld proceeded to swear in Bob Mohre to the vacant council seat.
A motion was made to accept the minutes from the previous council meeting which passed. A presentation of the financial report showed that the village revenue ended up at $2,400.00 with expenses being $2,200.00. Purchase orders were presented and accepted.
A motion was made to suspend the three-reading rule for Resolution 06-2021-2 regarding, authorizing the necessary tax levies, due to emergency status which was approved. A motion to approve the resolution was also made and approved.
The council then moved on to the mayor’s report. Mayor Muehlfeld stated that she had met with Maumee Valley Planning and the County Engineers Office on Friday to discuss what funding is available for mowing and maintaining the village hills.
The county surveyed the land and found that the village does not own much of the land. A recommendation was made by Maumee Valley to either buy a remote-controlled mower to mow the steep hills or to pass a resolution to make it the landowner’s responsibility to keep the areas mowed. More information should be available for the next meeting.
In the police report, Chief Mohre noted that the electronic speed limit signs seem to be slowing traffic down. He also stated that he is working on getting the new Marc’s radios and vehicle computers up and running which were purchased with COVID funds.
With no further business the council voted to adjourn.
