West Unity Village Council meeting began at 7:30 p.m. on March 10, 2022 with an opening prayer followed by The Pledge of Allegiance. Bills and Regular Minutes from the previous meeting on February 10, 2022 were approved.
Visitors, Mike Kurivial from First Insurance and Patsy Miller from Millcreek-West Unity Area Foundation, were present for the meeting.
Miller presented a check from the Millcreek-West Unity Area Foundation of $20,000 dollars for the splash pad. West Unity’s splash pad will have a waterfall, water arches, a dumping water bucket and much more. The final date of the finished splash pad is still to be determined.
Kurvivial gave a small presentation regarding heath insurance rates and percentages for the village employees.
Council suspended the reading rules and approved the following legislation items: Resolution 3-2022-7 Authorizing Participation in the ODOT Road Salt Contracts Awarded in 2022 Declaring such an emergency; Resolution 03-2022-8 A Resolution authorizing the transfer of $25,000 from Fund No. 100-110-190-0009 (part-time salary) to Fund No. 1000-110-190-0000 (Full-time salary); and Ordinance 2022-2 An Ordinance Authorizing the Re-Appropriation of Cable Franchise Fee revenue from the Villages General Fund (1000) to its Park Fund (No. 2041).
During Village Administrator Joshua Fritsch’s Report, he stated ODOT, (Ohio Department of Transportation) will be financing two new flashing lights for the crosswalk by Kamco Industries on the East side of town.
ODOT will provide the two flashing lights and deliver them, on account that the village does the labor and lay the sidewalks. Fritsch also stated the Splash Pad will be ready for early pickup, making it possible to receive the Splash Pad itself before April.
Due to new state standards, the Village of West Unity is required to have 25 street lights. Village Administrator, Josh Fritsch, reported West Unity only has 17 lights, and that he has received an estimate regarding the cost of putting in more lights.
By next year, the budget would cover more than half of the expenses, with only $50,000 left to fund. With the engineering aspect almost completed, Council is hoping to take care of these lights before more cost increases come along.
To consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official, or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, Council moved to an Executive Session at 8:34 p.m.
With no action taken, the executive session concluded at 9:15 p.m.
