The County Risk Sharing Authority (CORSA) hosted a leadership class for law enforcement agencies in both Fulton County and the surrounding areas.

This insurance agency normally puts on 4 classes per year that are run by Col. Chad Dennis who is also the Chief Deputy for the Licking County Sheriff’s Office.

CORSA Law Enforcement/Corrections Specialist Ken Hilty explained that this class is put on to help those in leadership positions.

“The idea behind the class is to help folks who are in law enforcement and corrections. It is designed to help staff that are in leadership positions to help broaden their horizons and scope to what being a leader means and the paths they can follow to productive leadership,” said CORSA Specialist Hilty.

It was also stated that a benefit to the class is everyone in attendance. The number of officers in attendance, their positions, and length of employment can provide valuable information to others on its own. “I want to get them talking,” said Col. Dennis.

He continued with, “We have younger generations with older generations that are able to offer their experience.” He went on to explain that the younger generation is our future.

For that reason, it is also important to teach the older generation on how to interact with those of the younger generation and vice versa.

“True leadership is all about working relationships. The days of just barking orders, it has its time and place, but true leadership is about working relationships.”

“Getting people to do what needs to be done because its right and they want to follow you. Never ask someone to do something you won’t do yourself,” continued Col. Dennis.

The class lasted 5-6 hours with different topics being covered such as how to lead others.

Other topics such as being successful in what is already done, how to identify future leaders, and leaving the community better then when it was found were also discussed.

This meeting was the second of the year for the insurance company. Later the same week, the group planned on putting on a class in Warren and Geauga Counties.
