The Edon village council meeting of April 18 began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by roll call. All six council members, Lee Lawrence, Brook Morris, David Loughborough, Dan Ankney, Austin Thiel and Brandon Thiel, were in attendance.

In the first order of business, council approved the March 21 meeting minutes. They then approved the financial statements and approved the paying of the bills.

It was announced that Big Trash Day will take place on April 30.

Police Chief Tom Szymczak then gave a police report. He stated that he will be preparing and assisting the school with a mass casualty drill on May 11. He also reported that Devin Harter is doing well and should be on the road, soon.

In safety, superintendent Anthony Stevens asked for safety at boys and girls varsity basketball events, Chief Szymczak said that he will check his schedule for availability. Stevens estimated a cost of $2,000 yearly.

Chief Szymczak and solicitor Tom Thompson will review the cost and other areas with the safety committee.

In looking at the cemetery, Loughborough would like the corners to be widened in certain areas, so that cars can turn and not tear up the cemetery yard. Administrator Chad Ordway will review.

Also, the next council meeting will be a joint meeting with the Florence Township trustees.

In the park area, the Park Board was able to meet its goal of $50,000 for Phase I of the playground. In Phase II, the Park Board will be applying for a grant and has already had $53,000 donated. Bids for the playground will take place on May 4.

A down payment for Jelly Bean Mulch has been made and the mulch will be delivered and ready for install when the playground equipment is ordered.

Part-time park employees, Wade Parrish, Silas Brumbaugh and Rowan Snyder, have been hired.

In zoning, a property owner wants to build an accessory structure of an additional 100 square feet. Council approved the request.

In the village administrator report, Ordway said that the new loader has arrived, and a new main building has arrived. It will be constructed as soon as the weather cooperates.

Ordway said that he is working on the sewer plant qualifications and is looking for an engineer to review it. In addition, Ordway is in the process of working on downtown qualifications.

Next, the council approved of the transfer of the Slattery Marathon liquor permit to P and R Investment.

Council then voted to adjourn the meeting. The next council meeting will take place on May 16.
