In attendance at the November 9 Edgerton Park Board meeting were park board members Cameron Cochran and Camie Hicks, along with Mayor Bob Day, Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles and village Fiscal Officer Denise Knecht.

Mayor Day opened the meeting by talking about doing projects in the village that will live a long time beyond us (the doers) and the importance of investing in kids.

Day showed several pictures of projects that have taken place and also asked Fitzcharles to discuss several projects that are currently in the works for downtown, Miller Park and Gerhart Park.

There are at least eight projects in the works, including putting in a disc golf course in Miller Park.

The disc golf course could have either nine or 18 holes. If they go with putting in 18 baskets (holes), the cost will range between $7,000-$8,000.

If they go with nine baskets, the cost would be about half that, or $4,000. A lot depends on how well the Lobaugh Project, which was constructed to cut way down on flooding problems in Miller Park, works.

If the flooding problem is cut way back, the disc course could cover 18 holes (baskets). No timetable is set on this project.

One project that could start within the next several months is putting in seating and benches at Gerhart Park. Governor DeWine’s office has already awarded money for the project.

Another project that could begin soon is putting in public restrooms downtown, close to the shelter house in Town Park. Plans for this project, which Fitzcharles said could cost over $237,000, has already been approved.

Fitzcharles anticipates the project costing less than the estimated cost. The concession stand bathroom project is slated to begin sometime in 2023.

In the works at Gerhart Park is to upgrade playground equipment and looking at putting in parking, with an estimated cost of $34,000.

One of the biggest problems in Gerhart is limited parking. An area looked at for parking is near the park’s playground.

A question here is if a team currently practices in that proposed area, could their practices be moved to another place?

Fitzcharles stated that the village has the equipment to do the parking and it could be done at minimal cost.

She said that there is also money available for playground equipment. Also, in the works for Gerhart Park is to put in a water fountain.

Also, renovations for the outside basketball court near the Edgerton schools, will take place in June.

Day mentioned that a project he would like to see done is to put in some sort of war memorial within the village. Day showed pictures of war memorials in other parts of the country.

The park board then voted to adjourn the meeting.

In upcoming meetings, there will be a finance committee meeting on Tuesday, November 15 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by a regular council meeting on November 15, at 7 p.m.
