Bryan City Council held a special meeting on December 28, at 12 p.m. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by roll call.

All five council members, Jon Kozumplik, Richard Hupe, Judy Yahraus, John Betts and Mary Leatherman were in attendance.

In the first order of business, council approved the minutes from the previous December 19 meeting.

Mayor Carrie Schlade thanked all who served on the budget committee, including Fiscal Officer Laura Rode, Rick Ruby and Betts.

Next, coucil approved Ordinance 65-2022. This involved the city of Bryan’s annual appropriations, for the fiscal year ending on December 31.

Council then approved Ordinance 66-2022. This ordinance involved the city of Bryan’s salaries and classifications in the compensation program.

The ordinance also amends Ordinance 60-2021 and repeals any part of the ordinances that were found to be inconsistent.

Next, council approved the fire department’s request to issue a Civil Service Exam. Fire Chief Doug Pool said that the last exam was conducted in October of 2021 and that the list from that date has been depleted.

In council comments, Yahraus thanked the parks department for a good job of cleaning the sidewalk after the storm. She stated that a lot of people were now using the sidewalk.

Betts thanked all the department heads who were on the budget committee. He stated that “being on a budget committee is so much smoother and easier when we have the department heads that ask for needs, as opposed to wants.”

In other news, in an executive session meeting that took place on December 19, council voted to not renew the contract of city attorney and law director Rhonda Fisher.

In executive session held on December 28, Rode reported that Marc Fishel will be the interim city attorney.

In addition, Rode said that three attorneys, James Duranczyk, Mark Hagans, and Robert Bohmer, will serve as outside counsel.
