The Williams County Commissioners called their March 9, 2023 general session to order at 9 a.m.

They started the meeting by approving Resolution 23-0086, which were appropriations made by the county auditor, and Resolution 23-0087, which outlines the rules for public participation in commissioner meetings.

Commissioners then signed the letter being sent to Al Fiser, Village of Pioneer Administrator, officially denying a permit for the installation of raw water and wastewater lines going to North Industrial Park.

Commissioners then looked over the auditor’s February financial analysis report and the treasurer’s monthly report, approving travel and purchase requests.

After discussing the Edon Northwest Agreement, approving the minutes of the March 6, 2023 meeting, and approving to pay the bills as presented, Commissioner Terry Rummel detailed aspects of grant funding available to reimburse county Narcan costs and Commissioner Bart Westfall expressed thanks that Director Woodring has prepared a monthly update.

The commissioners then went into recess until 10:06 a.m.

Director Gene Woodring came in to update the commissioners on the progress of the Williams County Courthouse abatement and renovation projects.

The remodel should start March 13th at 8 a.m., beginning first with a 3-4 week asbestos abatement process, where the south side of the courthouse will be under quarantine.

A dumpster will be raised up to the 4th floor to help limit traffic and asbestos contamination. Commissioner Lew Hilkert asked how often the dumpster will be emptied, and he was informed that the contaminates will be removed daily.

Woodring also noted how they are currently accepting bids for summer lawn care, as three large projects are consuming his department’s time that would normally be devoted to this task.

Woodring also updated the commissioners on the progress of Jay’s Heating and Cooling Courthouse HVAC unit installation project, as well as relaying that the window replacement project has been in touch with local event participants concerning the logistics of street space due to construction this year.

Woodring is holding a meeting next Thursday to coordinate with vendors that participate in downtown events.

The window replacement project should be starting Tuesday May 30, 2023 and is projected to last at least 8 business weeks. Plans are to have the window replacement project finished by August 12, 2023.
