The Williams County Mayors’ Association met on May 17, 2023. After the meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m., the minutes from the April 19, 2023 meeting and financial statements were approved.

Then the attendees turned their attention over to a cyber security specialist from OC3 (Ohio Cyber Collaboration Committee) who gave a roughly hour long presentation touching on the surface of why cyber security is essential.

This included examples of how scammers find their targets, as well as some suggestions that anyone can choose to adopt in order to secure their information.

OC3 has made it their mission to train civilians in cyber security in a government sanctioned way in order to combat scamming efforts.

A hot-topic during this presentation was data; who stores it, who sells it, where it goes, what can access it and the most frequently given advice was to use diverse, strong passwords that include a mixture of symbol types and no personal information.

The next Williams County Mayors’ Association meeting will be held on September 20, 2023.
