(Swanton, Ohio) – An F-16 fighter jet assigned the 180th Fighter Wing at Eugene Kranz Toledo Express Airport jettisoned two fuel tanks in accordance with emergency procedures during an in-flight emergency in Harding County, approximately 50 miles south of the base, at approximately 10:20 a.m., Sept. 10, 2023.
The aircraft was on a routine training mission from the 180th Fighter Wing and landed safely at the base following the emergency, and there were no injuries to the pilot or personnel on the ground. The airport was briefly closed to ensure safety of all personnel and civilians.
Both fuel tanks have been recovered and there are no immediate safety concerns to those in the area. An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the in-flight emergency
