(April 14th, 2015) – PIONEER: The Lady Blackbirds earned a hard fought victory as they took on hosting North Central, Hilltop, Fayette, and non-conference foe Monclova in a five team meet on Tuesday, April 14. Pettisville edged out the girls from Pioneer, scoring 106 points to their 91. Hilltop had a respectable showing with 78 points, while Monclova totaled 34. A lack of numbers limited Fayette to 32 points.

In the discus, Fayette’s Michaela Bates took first place with a throw of 105’2”. Second place belonged to Heather McConnaughey, of North Central, thanks to her throw of 63’4”. Pettisville’s Fernanda Hernandez earned a third place finish at 62’8”.

The distance events are where Hilltop really made their mark on the meet. In the one mile run, Pettisville sophomore Alexa Leppelmeier took first place with a time of 5:33. However, a mere seventeen seconds behind her, Lady Cadet Madi Routhier claimed second place at 5:50. Teammate Landrey Brown finished in third, thanks to her time of 6:09.

The duo of Rothier and Brown took first and third in the two mile, running times of 13:06 and 13:45, respectively. Sandwiched between them was Pettisville runner Elizabeth Miller, whose time of 13:37 was good enough to net her second place.

Brown would have an impact in the 800 meter race as well. Giving Hilltop a second place finish in the event, thanks to her time of 2:41. Leppelmeier won the race, running a time of 2:35. North Central freshman Emma Zenz claimed third place at 2:55.

In the 400 meter dash, it was Kara Brown coming away with the victory, running a time of 1:11 for Hilltop. Page Keefer, a senior for Fayette, was a mere two seconds behind her with a second place finish of 1:13. Pettisville’s Sarah Beck took third place with a 1:14 time.

Routhier again placed for Hilltop in the high jump. Her second place jump of 4’8” was second only to Brooke Schofield, of North Central. The Lady Eagle senior won with a jump of 4’10”. Rebekah Steele earned Pettisville a fourth place finish at 4’4”.

The Buckeye Border Conference (BBC) displayed a lot of parody in the meet, with each team’s athletes performing well in various events. Pettisville came out on top, but the competition between the four BBC teams will continue to be intense as they meet throughout the year.
