The Envriothon is a multi-disciplinary, environmental problem-solving program culminating in a series of annual competitions. 58 teams of five high school students (grades 9-12) trained and competed in the area of soils, wildlife, aquatics, forestry and current issues. The top teams may move on to compete at the regional, state and national levels.
The Area 1 Envirothon included teams from the counties of Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Lucas, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Wood, and Wyandot. The first-place winner was Wynford Blue from Crawford County; second-place winner was Fort Jennings Team No. 1 from Putnam County; third-place winner was Sylvania Southview Team No. 1 from Lucas County.
In Ohio, the Envirothon continues to grow as more and more high school students take the opportunity to display their knowledge of the environment. Ohio’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts sponsor five Area Envirothons each year and welcome new high school students to join in this exciting and rewarding educational experience.
