The Williams County Commissioners met twice in regular session last week, Monday and Thursday per usual.

Monday began at 9 a.m. with the approval of the treasurer’s monthly report and the bills as presented before meeting with Maumee Valley Planning about the Community Development Implementation Strategy (CDIS).

This is to help monitor grants for community development, helping MVPO to better understand what projects the communities need funding for.

They then entered into executive session for matters relating to JFS employees before hearing a kinship update with Fred Lord, Laura Richmond, and Sharon Borton with JFS.

It was shared how cases are investigated and what a caseworker’s job looks like when they are made aware of an at-risk youth.

Services that JFS strives to share with visited families were shared as well, including assistance applications and resource information.

JFS’s kinship program helps families better provide for their children so that children see a better home life. This also aims to have fewer children going through foster programs with strangers.

Information was shared on how this program works, with conversation being held on how the funding has been getting to families, and how it could get to them faster.

The Commissioners then approved the Dog Warden report as presented, and Commissioner Rummel was given permission to proceed with renewing the Dog Warden contract with the humane society before they adjourned for the day.

Thursday’s general session resulted in one approved resolution (transfers on behalf of the Williams County Airport Authority, Commissioners, Common Pleas Court, EMS, Engineer, Hillside Country Living, and Soil & Water Conservation), and updates from Todd Roth and Jared Redinger on the finishing of the Bible Park bridge project, and Kayla Wyse on the current happenings of OSU and ANR, as well as give their budget presentation before the commissioners found themselves on the way to Montpelier.

There, they gathered at the Williams County Veterans Memorial Building for the Department of Aging’s Thanksgiving luncheon at 11:30 a.m.
