The Fulton County Humane Society rescued a dog named Percy on November 13th. The dog was originally rescued by the Fulton County Dog Warden who was called out to investigate a stray dog.
According to Denise Miller, who is the director of the Fulton County Humane Society, contact was immediately made with the Society by the dog warden due to Percy’s condition.
That is to say, Percy was in critical condition and was subsequently taken to a veterinarian. At that point in time, she was very emaciated, weak, and weighed just 24.6 pounds.
She was immediately started on a strict diet, receiving only a small amount of food every two hours.
Percy’s bloodwork shows that she is very anemic, which is being addressed by feeding her a tablespoon of liver broth mixed in with each feeding.
Since being brought in, her weight has increased to 29 pounds, with her weight increases needing to take place slowly to prevent her body from crashing.
Miller also explained that Percy is always hungry and wants to wander around the building to look for food. “We want to limit her activity to a minimum to conserve her energy and calorie intake, but she is very strong willed in wanting her way.”
“As of today, she is 29lbs, but she still needs to at least double her weight. She is a very smart girl and is housebroken so someone cared for her once. She is also a happy girl to get attention and food. Her strong will is why she is still alive.”
She also went on to explain that the society has been blessed by the amount of donations for her.
“She has been very blessed by followers donating orthopedic dog beds for her as well as the dehydrated food we are feeding her. She will remind us every two hours that now is her feeding time.”
