(May 9th, 2015) – EDON: After getting off to an early lead on the road, things turned quickly for the Hilltop Cadets. Their Bomber hosts quickly turned the tables, gaining a large advantage that they would never relinquish, despite a late run by the boys from West Unity.

Edon would hold on to defeat the Cadets 10-7.

Hilltop started things off right, opening the game with a 3 run first inning while holding their hosts scoreless. It didn’t take Edon very long to build momentum, however. After putting up a run in the bottom of the second, they went on to tack on 4 more in both the third and fourth innings. Suddenly finding themselves in a 9-3 hole with three innings left to play, the Cadet boys had an uphill battle to stay in the game.

They began that climb with another 3 run effort in the top of the fifth. This put Hilltop within striking distance of the hometown boys of Edon. The Bombers would answer with a run of their own yet again, putting their advantage up to 4 runs heading into the seventh and final inning. That lead would last, as the Cadets could only add 1 more run to their total in the top of said inning, effectively ending the contest.

Logan Bloir took advantage of his sole opportunity to make contact with the ball, bashing it over the fence for a grand slam. The Bomber junior went 1 for 2 from the plate, driving in 4 RBIs. Teammate Colten Lyman also had 4 RBIs, as he went 1 for 3 in his plate appearances. Hitting for a 3 RBI double, Lymen also gave his team a run with a sacrifice fly.

For Hilltop, it was Cole Haynes who hit a 2 run home run. A junior, Haynes went 1 for 4 on the evening. His classmate, Nic Schieber, also drove in a run, hitting an RBI single as he went 2 for 4 at the plate. His other hit was a single as well.

Three pitchers saw time for Edon. Starting the contest from the mound was Braden Miller, who remained there for 4.1 innings. In that time, he allowed 3 earned runs off of 6 hits, walking 5 and striking out 1 more. Hayden Runyan, and Bloir came in for relief, with the former lasting .2 innings and the latter taking over for the final two.

Schieber took to the mound for the first three innings for Hilltop. Giving up 2 earned runs from 2 hits, he walked 3 and struck out 1 more. Senior Jalen Towers relieved him, finishing up the final three innings of play.
