If you’ve noticed that you feel calmer and happier when you’re spending time in the great outdoors you’re not alone.
Many people started spending more time in nature during the pandemic. Today, people are continuing to embrace nature and new in creative ways such as working out outside, adding wellness spaces and workstations to the backyards.
Some families are even committing to spending 1,000 hours outside every year. You’re taking a stroll around your local park, you may notice your feeling lighter, more focused, a little less stressed.
Those benefits aren’t imagined— NATURE IS GREAT MEDICINE! It’s so beneficial, in fact that a growing number of health and wellness professionals have started writing “nature prescriptions” to treat numerous elements, including depression and hypertension.
While some may scoff at such a soft prescription, evidence supporting the relationship between nature and health continues to grow.
Research also shows that most of us don’t capitalize on it Americans spend less than 8% of their time outdoors. That may be changing, as increased public awareness of deep human need for nature connection rises.
Individuals who spent at least two hours a week outdoors were more like more likely to report have a good health and strong sense of well-being. Families create a greater sense of connection to their children and families even pets.
You don’t have to exercise outdoors to experience natures health benefits yes studies show that taking your work out to the park might make it seem more fun, enjoyable for the whole family even.
Myopia (nearsightedness) has risen and prevalence over the past 50 years, which may be related to increase time spent indoors.
Although one might expect a correlation to stand from excessive screen time, the issue may have more to do with lack of natural light exposure and a greater focus on activities performed at a short distance, such as reading, studying, and gaming.
When we engage with nature, we expose ourselves to natural microbes that help diversify our micro biomes and support our immune systems.
In a study published in science advances in 2020, researchers added natural elements, including lawn turf and planter boxes to playgrounds at urban daycares.
After just one month, the researchers noted a significant increase in microbial diversity of the children’s skin and positive changes in proteins in cells that support the immune function.
Struggling to find a creative flow, the antidote may be outside your door. You may notice significant increase in creativity, better focus, calmer for state of being.
Schedule it on your calendar like you do piano lessons sporting events, “Park Visit or Backyard playtime”. Be systematic about it and you will be likely to see more benefits due to the routine exposures and thus the routine support of attentional functioning.
There are so many beautiful parks in our area in our state. Whether you enjoy playing outside or a picnic outside, enjoy it great idea to put your digital devices away and focus on yourself and your loved ones.
