BRYAN CITY COUNCIL: Bryan Area Foundation Donates On Behalf Of Scholarship

SCHEDULE CHANGE … Bryan City Council members discuss date changes for upcoming meetings.

The Bryan City Council met on Tuesday, September 3th, 2024 at 5:30 pm with all members present Mary Leatherman from Ward 1, Richard Hupe from Ward 2, John Betts from Ward 3, Stephen Alspaugh from Ward 4, Jim Kozumplik At Large. Mayor Carrie Schlade, Clerk/Treasurer John Lehner, Police Chief Greg Ruskey, Fire Chief Douglas Pool, City Engineer Brian Wieland, city employees from various departments, and a few members from the community.

The meeting was called to order by Mary Leatherman at 5:30 pm followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The council approved the minutes from the August 19th meeting.

Next on the agenda was a hearing of public concerns. Resident Steve Cox approached the council to thank them for street repairs on Huntington Drive.

Fire Chief Douglas Pool presented a second reading of Ordinance 29-2024 which concerns the fireworks ban. Police Chief Ruskey presented Ordinance 32-2024 which provides annual appropriations for the city of Bryan.

Resolution 37-2024 is to accept a $2250.00 donation from the Bryan Area Foundation on behalf of the Robert F. Flightner Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship to the Bryan Police Department. Two officers applied and plan on using the funds to further education and training. Motions approved by council.

City Engineer Brian Weiland approached the council asking for a building permit which was approved.

Next on the agenda is to revise the council meeting set for Tuesday, October 8th to be changed back to Monday, October 7th since the date for Ready, Set, Relax is now in November.

Mayor Carrie Schlade proposed the council meeting on Monday, November 4th be changed to Tuesday, November 5th.The council meeting adjourned at 5:40 pm. The next Bryan City Council meeting will be September 16th at 5:30 pm.
