The Metamora Chamber of Commerce convened on November 13, 2024, bringing together local business leaders and community members for a productive session focused on community engagement and future initiatives.

The meeting, called to order by Cathy Mossing, began with the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a patriotic tone for the discussions that followed.

Key Approvals and Financial Overview
The meeting commenced with the approval of the September meeting minutes, as moved by Cheryl Geer and seconded by Courtney Krieger. A unanimous vote confirmed the acceptance.

Treasurer Kim Smallman provided a succinct overview of the Chamber’s financial health, which was similarly approved following a motion by Jackie Koelsch and seconded by Tracy Pixley. Kim also shared insights into the financial success of the recent Chili Taste-Off event.

Announcements and Upcoming Events
Cathy Mossing announced the upcoming 2025 Annual Meeting, with flyers available both physically and online.

The Chamber’s new quarterly meeting schedule for 2025 was also shared, emphasizing the Chamber’s commitment to regular engagement with its members.

Spotlight on Local Businesses
The meeting featured presentations that highlighted local enterprises contributing to the community. Sandy Witt provided an insightful presentation on the Gleaner South Fairfield Arbor organization, a service club that actively participates in community events.

The club, recognized for its extraordinary life insurance policy for children, is deeply involved in local activities such as the Easter Egg Hunt and Party in the Park.

Jackie Koelsch shared the inspiring growth story of the Koelsch Farm Homestead, which evolved from an Airbnb to a popular wedding venue.

The farm now hosts a variety of events, including family reunions and quilting weekends. The community is invited to visit for the Santa Visit on December 14 and the 10-year anniversary open house on May 31, 2025.

Committee and Event Updates
The Chamber continues to prepare for the Village Parade of Lights, scheduled for December 15, and the Koelsch Santa Visit. The Chamber will sponsor photos with Santa, and volunteers are needed to assist at the event. Additionally, the MAVFD Feather Party is set for November 26, promising an evening of community fun.

Community Engagement and Concerns
During the open forum, Cheryl Geer expressed concern over the lack of local business participation in the Library Trunk or Treat event, urging members to support the library’s initiatives. The Historical Society was also praised for its festive holiday preparations and upcoming open houses.

Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with plans for the 2025 Annual Meeting on January 15 at the CWV Hall in Assumption. Tickets are available for purchase at various local outlets, ensuring broad community participation.

As the Chamber looks forward to another year of growth and community involvement, members are encouraged to stay engaged and continue supporting local initiatives.
