ARCHBOLD (May 9, 2025) – The Otsego Knights secured a 5-1 win on the road over the Archbold Bluestreaks on Friday evening. They relied on consistent offense and a dominant outing to achieve the win.
With 10 hits from up and down the lineup and a complete game from pitcher Janelle Brooks, the Knights showed control over the game from start to finish.
Otsego’s game plan was fairly simple; put the ball in play and keep the pressure on. Seven different Knights recorded hits, with Ryleigh O’Brien leading the momentum.
O’Brien went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, scored twice, stole two bases, drove in a run, and even added a sacrifice fly to cap off a standout performance.
The Knights struck first, and Otsego took an early lead in the second when Riley Rowe delivered a sacrifice fly, allowing O’Brien to sprint to home, putting the Knights ahead 1-0 in the second.
They would go on to score two more in the sixth. Despite not having a breakout inning, Otsego’s ability to generate offense inning by inning kept Archbold from ever settling in defensively.
The Bluestreaks struggled to find an answer at the plate against Brooks, who went the distance for Otsego, scattered just three hits in seven innings, allowed one earned run, walking four, and striking out three.
Though she worked through some traffic on the bases, facing 27 batters total, Brooks remained steady and made sure to get key outs where it mattered most.
Archbold’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth. Madi Bowers, who reached base twice on walks, came around to score on an RBI from Meg Ames, temporarily cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Knights, however, responded very soon after with two more runs in the sixth, regaining a good four-run cushion.
Bowers battled for Archbold on the mound, throwing 110 pitches over seven innings and striking out one. She allowed 10 hits and five runs, although just two were earned due to a few costly defensive miscues.
The Bluestreaks committed three errors, including two from shortstop Klaire Kern, which extended multiple innings and helped Otsego keep their foot on the gas, so to speak.
Kenna Jones chipped in with a hit, a walk, and an RBI for the Knights, while Ava Weaver added two hits of her own, including a run-scoring single.
Mackenzie Shirkey also contributed with a sacrifice fly that helped give Otsego some breathing room later in the game.
Defensively, the Knights remained their composure, committing no errors and supporting their pitcher well in the field.
