The Friends of the Montpelier Parks, Inc. held their regular meeting on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Recreation Office on South Pleasant Street.
In attendance were Sandy Gordon, Scott Gordon, Brent Saneholtz, Nick Ramos, and Eric Smeltzer. Saneholtz called the meeting to order as President Seth Miller was absent.
The evening began with a park and pool maintenance update by Nick Ramos. Ramos mentioned he had received a quote for the baby pool repairs; however, it was considered too expensive of an option. He will continue searching for other local company bids.
A motion to approve the June 26, 2025, meeting minutes was approved, along with the financial statement. There was a small discussion within the Friends about future banking options.
Another motion was introduced to officially release funds from a designated account back into the undesignated account for better management. This was referred to as a transfer of funds for easier banking.
“Making Waves,” a program that offers free swim lessons to qualifying individuals, had a total of 56 courses taught over the summer. A motion was passed to release the costs of $840, valued at $15 each, back into the Village of Montpelier.
The leftover Pony League funds, previously run by Scott Gordon, were approved to be transferred into the Montpelier Baseball Association. They will take over all monetary funds and responsibilities moving forward. The Pony League banking account was closed as well.
Gordon requested permission to apply for the Parkview Health for Lunch Program, which members agreed would be a beneficial step in sustaining community lunch services. For a total amount of up to $5,000, Gordon has a deadline of October 1, 2025, to finish the application.
She continued to update the Friends with community events around the Montpelier Park over the last few months.
A new requirement from the Health Department is requesting that concession stands have their own food servicing license, and this will need to be accounted for in the 2026 budget.
Gordon also noted that the concession rates of sales were surprisingly down, considering the busy pool summer season.
A motion to close at 7:27 p.m. was made by Saneholtz, and the Friends of the Montpelier was adjourned with no further business.
