The Metamora Village Council met for its regular session on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance before minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

The mayor’s report followed next, during which committees were appointed to review and update the employee handbook and to conduct employee evaluations and raises.

Council was encouraged to begin preparing budget priorities and wish list items for the coming year. Quotes are being gathered for a tool to flare the ends of the Swanton Street Bridge, a recommendation that came from last year’s bridge report. An inventory will also be taken of items stored in the recycling building.

It was also stated that the Chamber of Commerce will be changing the flowerpots around town to fall décor on Saturday, September 13th at 9:00 a.m., and members were invited to assist if available.

The fiscal officer’s report included approval for training on October 9th, which will result in the village office being closed that day. The ongoing 2023-2024 state audit was mentioned, and bills were approved for payment.

Under old business, the council voted to purchase a seven-year extended warranty for the 2022 Ford truck for $4,520.00, with payments to be made over 30 months.

New business included a request to order a part for the sickle bar attachment. Council asked that other prices be checked before making a final purchase.

The zoning report then covered several matters. A building addition permit for East Main Street has not yet been re-inspected, and a new fence permit application for Maple Street still requires measurements and a drawing before it can move forward. It was also determined that Parker Hannifin does not need a permit for its sign.

Council also voted to waive the permit fee for the library’s outdoor reading shelter and sign, and the project has now been approved. Two zoning complaints on West Main Street were discussed, with follow-up visits still needed.

Council then entered executive session at 7:58 p.m. to discuss a property purchase offer. After returning to regular session at 8:09 p.m., it was agreed that a follow-up letter would be sent regarding the offer previously discussed earlier this summer. The meeting was adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
