A structure fire took place in Alvordton on the evening of Monday, October 20, prompting a multi-agency response. Fire crews were dispatched at 4:51 p.m. to a building located on Main Street that was being used as an apartment.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had spread from the upstairs area of the structure into the attic, working its way between portions of the ceiling.

Crews immediately began fire suppression efforts to bring the blaze under control. Once the main body of fire was knocked down, firefighters conducted extensive overhaul operations to ensure all remaining hot spots were fully extinguished.

Alvordton Fire Chief Tony Carpenter expressed appreciation for the teamwork displayed on the scene. “It was a good experience working with everyone. Everyone came together to accomplish the goal.

“It was good to work with all the mutual aid departments that came to help,” Carpenter said.

Multiple neighboring departments and agencies responded to assist. Those providing mutual aid included Pioneer Fire Department, Morenci Fire Department, Montpelier Fire Department, Brady Township Fire Department, Gorham-Fayette Fire Department, Waldron Fire Department, and Madison Kunkle Fire Department.

Also assisting were Williams County EMS, Williams County Central Dispatch, the Williams County Sheriff’s Department, ODOT, and Toledo Edison.

The coordinated effort between local and mutual aid agencies helped contain the fire to the building of origin, preventing it from spreading further.
