CITY PROJECTS … The guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Bryan’s meeting on February 18, 2026, was Mayor Carrie Schlade. The mayor gave an abbreviated State of the City presentation, highlighting major projects coming due in the near future. Road improvements are continuing into the new year, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrades are well underway. A new fire truck was delivered to the city last week. Another project slated for this year is the Fountain Creek Senior Villas, with groundbreaking scheduled for June. Also, construction of a new Lincoln Park Pavilion is anticipated this summer. The project to build a new AMTRAK station will likely not begin until the spring of 2027 due to a myriad of regulations governing the construction. The city collected $10 million from the 1.8% income tax and allotted $1.7 million to the fire fund, $2.8 million to streets and sewers, and $5.6 million to the general fund. The city collected approximately $600,000 from property taxes, as well as $1.1 million from various grants.
