ARCHBOLD (February 25, 2026) – For almost 28 minutes, Edon was ready to reach its first district title game in school history.
However, over the final four minutes of regulation, along with a four-minute overtime, Edon never scored again as Edgerton came from behind to claim a 42-38 victory and secure a spot in Saturday’s Division VII district title game at Ottawa-Glandorf. The Bulldogs’ opponent will be second-seeded Ottoville.
Ava Swank and Olivia Farnham each tripled for the Bulldogs to give them an early 6-4 lead.
Edon countered as Grace Ripke scored in the paint to tie the game, then Avery Aldrich and Genna Ripke each hit from long range to give the Bombers a 12-6 lead.
Farnham’s second deep ball at the buzzer cut the Bulldogs’ deficit in half, and Swank’s foul-line jumper to begin the second quarter brought Edgerton even closer at 12-11.
That began a back-and-forth stretch that continued through much of the second quarter before Farnham regained the Edgerton lead on a transition layup with 4:44 to go.
Genna Ripke’s steal-and-score gave the advantage back to Edon at 17-16, but Swank answered with a runner that vaulted the Bulldogs back ahead at the 3:35 mark.
Kaitlyn Burke’s second-chance basket with 2:30 left gave Edgerton its largest lead at 22-17. Genna Ripke hit a late triple to trim the gap to 22-20 at halftime.
Again, both teams traded scores to start the third until Swank broke a 26-26 tie with a three-pointer from the left side at the 3:37 mark to make it 29-26.
Genna Ripke’s third triple of the night flipped the score in the Bombers’ favor at 31-30 with 2.6 seconds left in the third.
Farnham and Swank each hit two from the foul line to put Edgerton up 34-33 with 6:13 left in the game.
Nevaeh Smith’s shot from the middle of the key gave Edon a 35-34 lead, and Adison Briner’s putback off a missed free throw with 4:16 left gave Edon a 38-34 advantage. The Bombers never scored again.
After an Edon turnover, Farnham found Burke cutting to the rim to get Edgerton within 38-37 with 2:00 to go. Both Farnham and Swank had chances to give Edgerton the lead but misfired in the final minute.
However, with Edon in possession and holding a one-point lead, Smith missed an ill-advised shot in traffic with less than 30 seconds left, giving Edgerton another opportunity when Elle Huard went to the line with 20.6 seconds remaining.
Huard split the pair to tie the game, and Edgerton held the Bombers without a quality look to force overtime.
Burke’s bank shot 20 seconds into the extra period gave Edgerton the lead, and the Bulldogs clamped down defensively as Edon went 0-for-3 from the floor and committed three turnovers in overtime.
Swank went 2-for-2 from the stripe with 16.6 seconds left to make it a two-possession game.
Farnham had 18 points and Swank added 15 to lead Edgerton (16-8). Genna Ripke’s 12 points led Edon (17-7).
Neither team shot well. Edgerton went 14-for-50 on the night, while Edon finished 12-for-47 from the field. Edon committed 19 turnovers, while Edgerton turned the ball over 18 times.
