The following is a statement issued by the Stryker Local Schools Board of Education and District Administration.

“The Stryker Local Schools Board of Education and District Administration are aware of the questions and concerns raised regarding events that occurred during the OHSAA Regional Girls Basketball Tournament at Bluffton University this past weekend.

We believe it is important to address our community directly and reaffirm our commitment to our student athletes and upholding the integrity of interscholastic athletics.

First and foremost, we are extremely proud of our Lady Panthers Basketball Team, coaches, students, families and community members who represented our school with extraordinary dedication, composure, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Their commitment to excellence and the manner in which they represented our school and community remain a source of great pride for Stryker Schools.

In response to the events that occurred during the regional tournament, the Board of Education and District Administration have taken steps to address the matter through the established channels of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).

This includes communicating directly with the appropriate OHSAA officials and governing bodies. The administration and Athletic Director are engaged in this process to ensure that the concerns surrounding the event are clearly presented and thoughtfully considered.

We take our responsibility to advocate for our student athletes and school programs seriously. The Board and Administration are committed to ensuring that the competitive environment in which our students participate reflects the standards of fairness, respect, and professionalism expected in high school athletics and at Stryker Schools.

At this time, we believe it is important to allow the review process to move forward in a respectful and professional manner. We appreciate the patience and continued support of our community as this process unfolds.

Our district remains firmly committed to supporting our student-athletes and ensuring their experiences in education-based athletics are positive, equitable, and reflective of the values we share as a community.”
